**New Delhi** – The Indian government announced the prestigious 2025 Padma Awards today, recognizing 139 individuals for their exceptional contributions across various fields. The awards, the highest civilian honors in India, are conferred in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.

This year’s recipients include a diverse group, with 23 women and 10 foreign nationals, NRIs, PIOs, or OCIs among the awardees. The list boasts a remarkable range of talent, from posthumous recognition for Bibek Debroy to business leader Pankaj Patel and acclaimed singer Arijit Singh.

Seven individuals received the Padma Vibhushan, the highest honor, including the late Sharda Sinha (“Bihar Kokila”) and Duvvur Nageshwar Reddy. Nineteen recipients were awarded the Padma Bhushan, with notable names like P R Sreejesh and Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti among them. The majority of the awards, 113, went to Padma Shri recipients, a list that includes India’s first Paralympic gold medalist, Harvinder Singh, and West Bengal’s Gokul Chandra Das, a dhak player who overcame caste barriers.
