**New Delhi** – The Indian government announced 139 recipients of the prestigious Padma Awards for 2025. The awards, recognizing exceptional and distinguished service in various fields, include seven Padma Vibhushan, nineteen Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awards.
Among the Padma Vibhushan recipients are former Suzuki Motors CEO Osamu Suzuki, renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha (both posthumously), and several others across diverse fields including medicine, public affairs, and art.
The Padma Bhushan list boasts notable figures such as late BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi, Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi (both posthumously), filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, hockey goalkeeper P.R. Sreejesh, economist Bibek Debroy (posthumously), ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas (posthumously), and former Prasar Bharati chairman A. Surya Prakash. Controversial figure Sadhvi Ritambhara also received the award.
The Padma Shri awards this year recognized numerous unsung heroes. Highlights include 100-year-old Goan freedom fighter Libia Lobo Sardesai, who co-founded an underground radio station during Portuguese rule; Gokul Chandra Dey, a Dhak player who trained 150 women in a traditionally male-dominated field; and Dr. Neerja Bhatla, a gynaecologist specializing in cervical cancer.
Of the 139 awardees, 23 are women, 10 are foreign nationals or NRIs, and 13 awards were conferred posthumously. The full list of recipients is available on the Ministry of Home Affairs website.
