**STORRS, Conn. –** The No. 6 University of Connecticut Huskies women’s basketball team routed Villanova 100-57 Wednesday night in a sold-out Gampel Pavilion. Four Huskies scored in double figures, led by freshman Sarah Strong’s 22 points.
Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers put on a stellar performance, contributing 21 points, eight rebounds, nine assists, and three steals in just 26 minutes. Graduate student Kaitlyn Chen added 17 points, a career high for her time at UConn. Sophomore KK Arnold also reached double digits with 11 points.
Bueckers, Strong, and Chen combined for a remarkable shooting performance, hitting 79.3% of their field goal attempts and 77.8% from three-point range. UConn dominated from the opening tip, going on a 12-2 run to start the game and maintaining a commanding lead throughout, holding a 31-15 advantage by the end of the first quarter. The Huskies maintained a high shooting percentage, hitting 70.8% through three quarters.
Coach Geno Auriemma emphasized the team’s strong decision-making on both offense and defense as key to the victory, rather than simply focusing on the final score.
The win sets up a crucial matchup this Saturday as UConn faces Creighton, currently tied for first place in the BIG EAST, in Omaha, Nebraska at 5:30 p.m. ET on FOX. The game will determine the conference leader.
