**New Delhi** – The Indian government announced the recipients of this year’s Padma Awards on Saturday, honoring 139 individuals across three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. A notable feature of this year’s awards is the inclusion of 13 posthumous recognitions, celebrating the contributions of several recently deceased figures who made significant impacts in their respective fields.

Among the prominent posthumous recipients of the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, are: MT Vasudevan Nair (literature and education), Osamu Suzuki (business), Sharda Sinha (folk music), and Bibek Debroy (economics). Also receiving the Padma Vibhushan posthumously are Manohar Joshi (politics), Pankaj Udhas (music), and Sushil Kumar Modi (politics).

The Padma Bhushan was posthumously awarded to Bibek Debroy. The Padma Shri, India’s highest civilian award, was bestowed posthumously upon several individuals, including Chandrakant Sheth (literature), the duo Hugh and Colleen Gantzer (travel writing), Kishore Kunal (IPS), Miriyala Apparao (art), and Narayan (“Bhulai Bhai”) (politics).
