**Navi Mumbai, January 26, 2025** – Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) marked its 76th Republic Day celebrations on Sunday, commemorating the anniversary alongside the 26th anniversary of its first operational train. Chairman and Managing Director Santosh Kumar Jha hoisted the national flag at the KRCL headquarters in Navi Mumbai.
Mr. Jha highlighted the corporation’s significant achievements in 2024, reporting robust revenue generation. KRCL earned ₹1,793 crore from traffic and ₹2,361 crore from projects. Operational highlights included the introduction of three new trains, an 8% increase in passenger train operations (reaching 19,957), and the operation of 1,178 special coaching trains.
Infrastructure improvements were also significant. KRCL opened five new world-class Executive Lounges across its network, with plans for two more. A modern food plaza with 14 stalls was inaugurated at Madgaon station. The corporation also reported substantial cost savings through increased electrification (85-90% of trains now use electric traction), resulting in ₹279.14 crore in fuel cost savings. Further investments in renewable energy, with 660 kW of solar power generation, saved an additional ₹55.13 lakh on energy bills.
Safety improvements were also noted, with a 21% decrease in weld failures attributed to track renewal projects. KRCL secured approval for 12 electrical works totaling ₹1,056 crore. The overall report paints a picture of strong financial performance and significant progress in infrastructure and safety for Konkan Railway in 2024.
