**Ballari, Karnataka, January 26, 2025** – A paediatrician, Dr. Sunil Kumar, who was abducted from a temple in Ballari on Saturday morning, has been safely rescued, police confirmed. Dr. Kumar was found late Saturday in Somasmudra village after a swift police operation.

According to Superintendent of Police Shobha Rani, the kidnappers, hampered by intense police activity, abandoned the doctor in a remote location before fleeing. Three police teams were immediately dispatched following the abduction, which occurred around 6:00 a.m. during Dr. Kumar’s morning walk. CCTV footage showed two individuals assaulting and forcing him into a car.

The kidnappers subsequently contacted the doctor’s brother and the president of the District Liquor Dealers’ Association, demanding a ₹5 crore ransom and gold for his release via WhatsApp call from Dr. Kumar’s phone. Police are continuing their investigation and are confident of apprehending the culprits soon. The incident caused significant alarm among Ballari residents.
