Sun Jan 26 03:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Hurricanes Debut New Players in Overtime Loss to Islanders

**UNIONDALE, NY** – The Carolina Hurricanes saw their two newest players make their team debuts on Saturday night, but it wasn’t enough to secure a victory against the New York Islanders. Despite a strong performance from goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov and early goals from Jack Roslovic and Sebastian Aho, the Hurricanes fell 3-2 in overtime at UBS Arena.

Wingers Mikko Rantanen and Taylor Hall, acquired in a Friday night trade, joined the lineup for Carolina. Roslovic ended a 12-game pointless streak with the opening goal, while Aho’s tally gave the Hurricanes a commanding 2-0 lead after the first period.

However, the Islanders, playing their second game in as many nights and already down a defenseman early due to injury, fought back. Alexander Romanov scored his first goal of the season, cutting the lead in half. The Islanders dominated much of the second and third periods, eventually tying the game thanks to a goal from Anders Lee.

Kochetkov made several key saves, including thwarting two breakaways, but ultimately, Brock Nelson’s overtime goal secured a comeback victory for the Islanders. Despite the loss, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour would have been pleased with his team’s effort and the debut performances of the new players.

The Hurricanes continue their road trip on Tuesday against the New York Rangers.
