Sun Jan 26 01:10:00 UTC 2025: **UConn Athletics Reports Record Revenue, Driven by Basketball’s Success**

STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut athletic department announced record-breaking revenue in its fiscal year 2024 report, fueled primarily by the success of its men’s and women’s basketball programs. The report, obtained by BVM Sports through an open records request, shows total operating revenue reaching $105.6 million, a $12.5 million increase from the previous year.

Men’s basketball, national champions in 2023-24, nearly doubled its revenue to $19.6 million, driven by a 32% surge in ticket sales ($8.3 million). Women’s basketball also saw significant growth, surpassing football in revenue for the first time. With an impressive 17% increase in ticket sales reaching $3.3 million—a record for a public women’s college basketball team—and increased donations, the women’s program generated $8 million in revenue.

While revenue soared, expenses also increased by $10.3 million to $101 million. Men’s basketball had the highest operating costs at $20.4 million, followed by football ($18.5 million) and women’s basketball ($12.5 million). Despite these costs, including significant investments in recruiting and coaching salaries (Dan Hurley earned $6.6 million, Geno Auriemma $3.2 million), the athletic department still reported a $4.6 million profit, a $2.2 million increase year-over-year. However, individual program profitability remains a challenge, with only volleyball showing a profit.

The report highlights the increasingly important role of both basketball programs in UConn’s athletic financial landscape, demonstrating their significant revenue-generating power and influence compared to other sports, including football. The next financial report is expected in January 2026.
