**Melbourne, Australia** – Madison Keys has secured her first Grand Slam title, winning the 2025 Australian Open in a thrilling final against reigning champion Aryna Sabalenka. The American defeated Sabalenka 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, earning a winner’s cheque of approximately US$2.2 million – a sum only slightly exceeding her runner-up prize money from the 2017 US Open.

Keys’ victory capped off an impressive tournament run, seeing her overcome Danielle Collins, Elena Rybakina, Elina Svitolina, and Iga Swiatek en route to the final. The win also boosted her WTA ranking to a career-high No. 7, a seven-place jump. She collected 2,000 ranking points.

Sabalenka, despite losing the final, maintained her world No. 1 ranking, earning US$1.2 million and 1,300 points. Semi-finalists Iga Swiatek and Paula Badosa each received US$695,000 and 780 points. Quarter-finalists Coco Gauff, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Elina Svitolina, and Emma Navarro each took home US$420,000 and 430 points.

Prize money decreased significantly with each round. Third-round losers received approximately US$183,000, while first-round exits earned US$83,000. Lucky loser Eva Lys, who reached the fourth round, earned a considerable sum due to her qualifying run.

At 29, Keys becomes the third-oldest woman to win her first Grand Slam title. Her victory marks a significant moment in her career, eight years after her US Open final loss. The tournament also saw discussion surrounding the conduct of Aryna Sabalenka following her defeat.
