**Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh:** In a massive operation unprecedented in the state, authorities in Madhya Pradesh destroyed approximately 80,000 kilograms of seized narcotics valued at ₹8600 crore (approximately $1 billion USD) in the international market. The drugs, confiscated from seven districts over the past year, were incinerated in a cement factory in Neemuch on Thursday.
The operation involved 22 trucks carrying narcotics including opium, smack, MDMA, ganja, hashish, and other substances seized in 456 cases. The incineration process, lasting from 7 am to 11 pm, utilized the cement factory’s 1400-degree Celsius furnace, ensuring complete destruction of the drugs. Scientists from the Pollution Control Board oversaw the process, confirming that no harmful emissions escaped the facility. The heat generated during the incineration was even used as green fuel by the cement factory, reducing its reliance on coal.
Superintendent of Police Ankit Jaiswal described the operation as record-breaking, highlighting its significance in the state’s ongoing fight against drug trafficking. The operation was monitored by a committee including the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of the Ujjain and Ratlam range and the Pollution Control Board to ensure environmental safety and adherence to strict protocols. Over 200 police personnel were deployed to maintain security.
This large-scale destruction is in line with the directives of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav to intensify the crackdown on drug trafficking within the state.
