**Los Angeles, CA** – Emmy-winning actor Jon Bernthal has joined the already impressive cast of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of Homer’s *The Odyssey*, Deadline has learned exclusively. Bernthal will star alongside an ensemble including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron in the epic film, set for release on July 17, 2026.
Universal Pictures announced last month that Nolan’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning *Oppenheimer* would be a large-scale adaptation of the classic Greek poem. The studio touted the film as a “mythic action epic” shot using cutting-edge IMAX film technology, marking the first time Homer’s foundational story will be brought to IMAX screens.
While Bernthal’s specific role remains undisclosed, his addition further strengthens the already star-studded cast. Filming is slated to begin next month.
*The Odyssey*, one of the cornerstones of Western literature, recounts the perilous journey of King Odysseus after the Trojan War. The story is filled with iconic encounters, including those with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the witch-goddess Circe.
Bernthal, fresh off an Emmy win for his role in FX’s *The Bear*, will soon be seen reprising his role as the Punisher in the upcoming Disney+ *Daredevil* series. He also stars in *The Accountant 2* alongside Ben Affleck and *His & Hers* opposite Tessa Thompson for Netflix.
