Sat Jan 25 17:53:36 UTC 2025: ## Former Minister Blames Telangana Government for Farmer Suicides
**Hyderabad, January 26, 2025** – Former minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader T. Harish Rao has voiced alarm over the rising number of farmer suicides in Telangana, particularly in the Adilabad district, where four farmers ended their lives in the past week. Rao criticized both the district administration and the state government for inaction, accusing them of failing to support distressed farmers and prevent suicides.
He blamed the ruling Congress party for the farmers’ plight, stating that they have not fulfilled election promises made a year ago, specifically citing the unfulfilled pledge to waive crop loans up to ₹2 lakh per farmer. Rao demanded an explanation from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy regarding the unkept promise and called for the government to take responsibility for the suicides.
He urged the government to provide ₹10 lakh ex-gratia to the families of the deceased farmers and appealed to the farming community to not resort to suicide, assuring them of the BRS party’s support.
