**Mumbai, India** – Akshay Kumar’s latest film, “Sky Force,” has taken off to a strong start, marking a significant comeback for the actor after a string of box office disappointments. The aerial action thriller, which opened on Friday, saw a remarkable 75.51% increase in earnings on Saturday, raking in Rs 21.5 crore (approximately $2.6 million USD) for a total weekend gross of Rs 33.75 crore.
The film, which boasts a relatively modest budget of Rs 160 crore (approximately $19.5 million USD), opened with Rs 11.25 crore (approximately $1.37 million USD) on its first day. This double-digit opening represents Akshay Kumar’s most successful film launch in years, following a series of underperforming releases including “Khel Khel Mein,” “Sarfira,” “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,” “Mission Raniganj,” “Selfiee,” “Ram Setu,” “Raksha Bandhan,” “Samrat Prithviraj,” and “Bachchhan Paandey.”
“Sky Force,” directed by Sandeep Kelwani and Abhishek Kapur, tells the untold story of India’s first and deadliest airstrike during the 1965 India-Pakistan War. The film stars Akshay Kumar as KO Ahuja alongside newcomer Veer Pahariya as IAF officer T Vijaya, and features Nimrat Kaur and Sara Ali Khan in supporting roles.
The film’s success has drawn comparisons to last year’s “Fighter,” which also saw a strong opening around Republic Day. While “Sky Force’s” opening day earnings were slightly lower than “Fighter’s” Rs 22.5 crore, its strong Saturday performance suggests continued positive momentum. “Sky Force’s” impressive performance is particularly noteworthy given its budget, which is considerably lower than “Fighter’s” Rs 250 crore. The film’s positive reception suggests a potential for sustained box office success.
