Sun Jan 26 21:03:54 IST 2025: ## Bengaluru to Benefit from Increased India-Indonesia Flight Services
**Bengaluru, India (January 26, 2025)** – A new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Indonesia is set to significantly boost air connectivity between the two nations, with Bengaluru poised to be a major beneficiary. The agreement, signed recently, will allow Indonesian airlines to serve more Indian cities and Indian carriers to increase the frequency of existing routes.
This is expected to result in increased direct flights to Indonesia from Bengaluru. Indonesian airlines are likely to begin serving Bengaluru and Hyderabad, while Indian carriers, such as IndiGo (which already offers daily flights between Bengaluru and Denpasar, Bali), may increase their frequency or add new destinations like Jakarta.
The MoU follows a period of substantial growth in tourism between the two countries. According to Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East) of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), nearly 700,000 Indian tourists visited Indonesia last year – a significant increase compared to previous years. He highlighted the importance of people-to-people connections and the potential for further tourism growth. Currently, there are 21 weekly flights between India and Indonesia, with services connecting Bengaluru to Bali, Mumbai to Jakarta, and Delhi to Bali, with a Delhi-Jakarta route soon to be added.
The impact of increased air connectivity is already evident. Data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) shows that 61,427 passengers travelled between Bengaluru and Denpasar in the months following the launch of IndiGo’s direct flights in March 2024. The new MoU promises to further expand this exchange, benefiting both tourism and business sectors.
