Sat Jan 25 22:10:26 UTC 2025: ## Bengaluru Faces Looming Water Crisis Amidst Groundwater Depletion
**Bengaluru, India –** Bengaluru, India’s tech capital, is facing a severe water crisis this summer, according to Ram Prasath Manohar, chairman of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). A joint study by BWSSB and the Indian Institute of Science reveals that 80 wards, encompassing 110 villages, are heavily reliant on rapidly depleting groundwater resources.
The study highlights the urgent need for residents to transition to Cauvery water connections, especially with the recently launched Phase 5 Project significantly increasing the city’s Cauvery water supply. This initiative, spearheaded by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, aims to address the escalating water shortage and promote sustainable water management in the face of alarmingly low groundwater levels. The BWSSB is urging citizens to switch to the Cauvery water supply to alleviate the crisis.
