**Abuja, Nigeria –** The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the timeline for the Anambra State governorship election and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections. INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, stated that political parties must conduct primaries to select their candidates for the Anambra election between March 20th and April 10th, 2025. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the electoral timetable, referencing Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022.

Professor Yakubu also revealed that the FCT Area Council elections are scheduled for Saturday, February 21st, 2026, electing six Area Council chairmen and 62 councillors. He urged political parties to cooperate fully with INEC to ensure smooth preparations for both elections, urging strict adherence to deadlines for primaries and campaign activities.
