Born in Thanjavur in 1971, Ajith’s family later moved to Secunderabad, Telangana. After completing his 10th standard, he initially worked as a mechanic at an Enfield bike garage, before briefly venturing into the garment export business. His entrepreneurial experience, while ultimately unsuccessful, provided valuable life lessons. During this period, he also worked as a model for various clothing brands.

A chance encounter with renowned cinematographer P.C. Sreeram led Ajith into the film industry. His debut was a small role in the 1990 film “En Veedu En Kanavar.” A recommendation from SP Balasubrahmanyam then propelled him into his first leading role in the Telugu film “Prema Pustakam,” though his Tamil film “Amaravathi” was released earlier. Ajith’s career soared with his dual role in the 1999 film “Vaali,” which earned him his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
