Sun Jan 26 06:05:37 UTC 2025: ## Saif Ali Khan Attack: Fingerprint Evidence Doesn’t Match Accused, Police Investigating Further

**Mumbai, India** – The Mumbai Police investigation into the knife attack on actor Saif Ali Khan has hit a snag. Fingerprint analysis of the crime scene reveals that the prints collected from Khan’s residence do not match those of the arrested suspect, Shariful Islam, a Bangladeshi national.

The prints were sent to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) fingerprint bureau, which confirmed the negative match. While Shariful remains in custody, police are now pursuing further forensic testing and additional lines of inquiry.

Khan, 54, was seriously injured on January 15th when an intruder broke into his home and stabbed him six times, including a near-miss injury to his spinal cord. He was hospitalized for several days, but has since been released and is recovering at home under doctor’s orders.

Shariful, who entered India illegally, claims he attempted the burglary to obtain money for fake citizenship documents promised by an unidentified individual. Police are actively searching for this individual.

The initial identification of Shariful was aided by CCTV footage and Western Railway’s facial recognition technology, which helped narrow down potential suspects after Shariful was seen boarding a train from Bandra station. However, the unclear quality of the footage prompted the police to pursue additional evidence, including the fingerprint analysis that has now yielded a negative result. The investigation continues as police seek to strengthen their case against Shariful.
