**New Delhi, January 26, 2025** – The Indian government announced the prestigious Padma Awards for 2025 on the eve of Republic Day, bestowing the nation’s highest civilian honors upon 139 individuals. The awards, conferred in three categories – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri – recognize exceptional and distinguished service across various fields, including art, social work, public affairs, science, medicine, literature, sports, and civil service.

This year’s recipients include seven Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awardees. Notably, 23 of the awardees are women, and the list also includes 10 foreign nationals, NRIs, PIOs, and OCIs, as well as 13 posthumous awards.

Among the prominent recipients is former Chief Justice of India, Justice (retired) Jagdish Singh Khehar, who was awarded the Padma Vibhushan. Justice Khehar delivered a dissenting opinion in the landmark 2017 Supreme Court case that outlawed triple talaq.
