HYDERABAD, INDIA – January 26, 2025 – Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of Telangana expressed both celebration and criticism regarding the 2025 Padma Awards. While congratulating Telangana recipients, including Dr. Duvvuru Nageshwar Reddy (Padma Vibhushan) and Nandamuri Balakrishna (Padma Bhushan), he voiced strong disapproval over the omission of several prominent figures recommended by the state government.
Reddy lauded the achievements of those honored, stating their dedication served as an inspiration. His sentiments were echoed by former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, who specifically praised Dr. Nageshwar Reddy’s contributions to the medical field. Union Minister for Coal and Mines Kishan Reddy and TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud also extended their congratulations to the awardees.
However, Reddy’s celebratory tone shifted when addressing what he perceived as an injustice towards Telangana. He criticized the central government for overlooking prominent figures such as Gadar, Chukka Ramaiah, Andesri, Gorati Venkanna, and Jayadheer Tirumala Rao, all of whom were recommended by the state for their significant contributions to society. Reddy indicated he is considering writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express his concern over the perceived snub, stating the exclusion of these individuals is an affront to the self-respect of Telangana’s people. He highlighted the discrepancy between the 139 awards given nationally and the limited representation from Telangana.
