Sun Jan 26 12:20:15 UTC 2025: ## 139 Padma Awards Announced on Republic Day; Telugu States Shine

**Hyderabad, January 26, 2025** – The Indian government announced 139 Padma Awards on the 76th Republic Day, honoring individuals for their exceptional contributions across various fields. Seven individuals received the Padma Vibhushan, 19 the Padma Bhushan, and 113 the Padma Shri.

Notably, several recipients hail from the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Prominent among them are Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, who received the Padma Vibhushan, and renowned actor Nandamuri Balakrishna, awarded the Padma Bhushan. Five others – Mandakrishna Madiga, Miriyalla Apparao, K.L. Krishna, Madugula Naga Phani Sharma, and Panchamukhi Raghavachary – were selected for the Padma Shri.

While the Padma Awards carry immense prestige, it’s important to note they don’t include a cash prize, special allowances, or travel benefits. The awards, presented by the President, consist of a certificate and a medal. The government reserves the right to revoke the award if the recipient is subsequently found to have committed any wrongdoing. However, state governments are free to offer their own financial incentives to Padma awardees. Last year, the Telangana government, for example, announced a ₹25 lakh cash prize and a monthly pension of ₹25,000 for Padma Shri recipients.

The article also briefly mentions other national awards, including those for bravery (Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra etc.), sports (Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, Arjuna Award), and women’s achievements (Nari Shakti Puraskar). Details on monetary awards associated with some of these were also provided.
