**Nashik, Maharashtra –** An 18-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped and assaulted over a 31-hour period in Nashik, Maharashtra, police reported. The suspects lured the victim to Nashik under the pretense of securing bail for her jailed husband.
The incident occurred in the Panchavati area between January 22nd and 23rd. The woman’s brother-in-law, who is older than her husband, allegedly orchestrated the crime along with two others, Amit Vijay Damle and Gopal Rajendra Nagolkar, both 25. Police have arrested Damle and Nagolkar, but the brother-in-law remains at large. Two additional suspects are also being sought.
According to police, the victim’s husband is currently imprisoned in Mumbai following a complaint filed by her family due to her underage marriage. Her brother-in-law contacted her, promising to arrange a guarantor for bail. Upon arriving in Nashik, she was taken to an open ground, tied to a tree, repeatedly assaulted, and gang-raped. The victim repeatedly lost consciousness due to the sustained beating. She eventually escaped and filed a police complaint.
The Nashik Road police initially registered the case, later transferring it to the Panchavati police station. Charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) include gang rape, rape, sexual assault through deceitful means, assault, causing hurt, and common intention. The investigation is ongoing.
