**New Delhi, January 25, 2025** – V Vijayasai Reddy, a prominent leader of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), has resigned from his Rajya Sabha seat and announced his retirement from politics, citing personal reasons. This marks the fourth resignation of a YSRCP MP from the Upper House since the party’s defeat in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections.
Reddy, a chartered accountant and a two-term Rajya Sabha member representing Andhra Pradesh, submitted his resignation to Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday. He confirmed that the resignation was voluntary and that he had informed YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy of his decision, despite the latter’s urging him to reconsider.
Reddy stated that he intends to dedicate his time to agriculture and delivering guest lectures at universities, sharing his expertise in areas such as capital markets and parliamentary procedure. He emphasized that his decision was driven by a personal belief that he could no longer effectively fulfill his duties as an MP.
The Rajya Sabha has accepted Reddy’s resignation, which leaves his seat vacant. Given the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) significant majority in Andhra Pradesh, the seat is expected to be filled by an NDA candidate in upcoming by-elections. This follows the recent resignations of fellow YSRCP Rajya Sabha members M Venkata Ramana, B Mastan Rao Yadav, and R Krishnaiah, some of whom have already joined opposing parties.
