
Sat Jan 25 21:50:33 IST 2025: ## Saitual Celebrates National Voters’ Day, Issues New EPICs
**Saitual, Mizoram, January 25, 2025** – Saitual District celebrated National Voters’ Day today with a ceremony held at the DC Conference Hall. The event, led by Election Officer Lalthakima Chhangte, saw the distribution of 8 new Electronic Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) to newly eligible voters.
District Election Officer and District Magistrate Dr. Lalngura Tlau highlighted the significance of the day, commemorating the establishment of the Election Commission of India in 1950. He emphasized the importance of India’s Universal Adult Franchise, which grants voting rights to all citizens aged 18 and above, regardless of gender or disability. Dr. Tlau stressed the role of voting in a democracy, empowering citizens to participate in the selection of their leaders. He also noted the impressive number of 457 service voters in Saitual District, four of whom are women.
The ceremony included the administering of a voter’s pledge and an awards ceremony for winners of a photography competition themed around National Voters’ Day. The competition was judged by F. Zodingpuii, DIPRO and Assistant Nodal Officer, SVEEP. The theme for National Voters’ Day 2025 was “‘Nothing like Voting, I vote for sure”.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Christina Lalnunfeli, SDC & Nodal Officer, SVEEP, and was attended by various departmental officials, community leaders, and NGO representatives. The event aimed to encourage voter registration and participation, especially amongst young voters.
