Sat Jan 25 01:41:16 UTC 2025: ## Bangladeshi Man’s Father Claims Son Framed in Saif Ali Khan Stabbing

**Mumbai, India –** The father of Shariful Islam, the Bangladeshi man accused of stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, is claiming his son is being framed. Mohammad Ruhul told PTI that his son, who used the alias Vijay Das in India, lacked proper documentation and lived in fear of arrest since the re-election of Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh in January 2024, forcing him to flee.

Ruhul disputes the evidence against his son, claiming the man in CCTV footage does not resemble Shariful and that his son would be incapable of such a crime. He plans to contact the Bangladeshi foreign ministry and the Indian High Commission for his son’s release.

Shariful, arrested in Thane, was remanded in police custody until January 29th. Mumbai police are still investigating, seeking to match the suspect’s footprints and recover the missing parts of the knife used in the attack. They also stated the accused is uncooperative. Saif Ali Khan’s statement, along with those of his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan and household staff, have been recorded. The defense questioned why Khan didn’t immediately call the police.

Ruhul maintains his son entered India between March and April 2024, worked at a Mumbai hotel, and regularly sent portions of his salary home. He emphasizes his son’s lack of documentation fueled his fear and that he was a member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). The investigation continues.
