Sat Jan 25 04:40:00 UTC 2025: ## India to Showcase Indigenous Ballistic Missile at Republic Day Parade

**NEW DELHI, January 24, 2025** – India will showcase its indigenously developed short-range quasi-ballistic missile, Pralay, at this year’s Republic Day parade. This marks a significant milestone for India’s defense capabilities, as Pralay is the first ballistic missile in the country’s arsenal designed for conventional strikes. The missile, with a range of 400 kilometers, will be deployed along both the Line of Control (LoC) and the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Development trials for Pralay are complete, and the Defence Ministry has approved its induction. The missile, featuring a twin launcher mounted on a high-mobility vehicle, adds to India’s existing arsenal of BrahMos and Parahar missiles, providing enhanced standoff strike capabilities.

In a separate development, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh flagged off the Battlefield Surveillance System ‘Sanjay’ on Friday. This automated system, developed jointly by the Indian Army and Bharat Electronics Limited at a cost of ₹2,402 crore, integrates inputs from various sensors to provide a comprehensive battlefield surveillance picture. Sanjay will be deployed across all Army operational units by October 2025. It will also be showcased at the Republic Day parade on Kartavya Path.

The procurement of several hundred Pralay and Nirbhay (a long-range sub-sonic land attack cruise missile) missiles was approved in 2023. A new derivative of Nirbhay, currently undergoing trials, is expected to be provided to the Army for testing this year. There are also plans to create a tri-service rocket force to consolidate India’s conventional missile capabilities under a single umbrella.
