Sat Jan 25 17:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Chelsea’s Palmer Compared to Salah as Blues Face City

**London, England –** Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has drawn a bold comparison between his star forward, Cole Palmer, and Liverpool’s prolific Mohamed Salah. Speaking ahead of Saturday’s crucial clash against Manchester City, Maresca lauded Palmer’s impact, likening his influence to that of the Premier League’s top scorer.

Palmer, who joined Chelsea from City in September, has been a revelation, scoring a combined 36 league goals this season and providing six assists. While Salah currently leads the league’s scoring charts with 18 goals and 13 assists, Maresca highlighted similarities beyond mere statistics. He emphasized Palmer’s willingness to take responsibility in challenging situations, mirroring Salah’s impact at Liverpool.

“He [Palmer] is improving a lot, not just in terms of goals and assists,” Maresca said. “Against Wolves, he showed real personality, demanding the ball when the team needed it. That’s what Salah does for Liverpool, what Ødegaard does for Arsenal – they step up when the pressure is on. We need that kind of player who says, ‘Give me the ball, I’ll handle it.'”

Despite Palmer’s impressive form, Maresca believes Manchester City will have no regrets about letting him go. He explained that City’s abundance of attacking talent made consistent playing time difficult for the young forward. “Having so many options, it was difficult for Pep [Guardiola] to give Cole minutes,” Maresca stated. “No one at City doubted his ability. He’s a top player, but it was a matter of balance and difficult decisions.”

Chelsea currently sits fourth in the Premier League, two points ahead of fifth-placed City. Saturday’s match at the Etihad Stadium promises to be a thrilling rematch of their season opener, a game City won 2-0. Palmer’s performance will undoubtedly be key as Chelsea looks to maintain their position in the top four.
