Sat Jan 25 02:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Top Transport Official Suspended After Harassment Allegations
**Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh:** A Deputy Transport Commissioner (DTC) in Kadapa, Chandrasekhar Reddy, has been suspended following allegations of sexual harassment against a female colleague. The incident came to light after Reddy allegedly repeatedly sent inappropriate messages to the officer, culminating in a visit to her home, which was captured on CCTV footage.
The woman’s husband, alerted by the CCTV footage, intervened, leading to a confrontation at the DTC office. While Reddy initially denied wrongdoing and later apologized, the incident sparked public outrage and prompted government intervention.
Reddy was initially transferred to the Commissioner’s office pending investigation. However, following widespread condemnation and pressure from public groups demanding stronger action, he has been suspended. A five-member committee of female officers has been formed to investigate the matter within three days. The victim, reportedly distraught, has left Kadapa with her family. The Minister, Ram Prasad Reddy, has contacted the victim and assured her of support. Police are yet to file criminal charges, but the government has pledged to ensure appropriate punishment for Reddy.
This is not the first time Reddy has faced such accusations; previous allegations surfaced during his postings in other districts. The incident has fueled debate about the lack of accountability for officials accused of sexual harassment and raises concerns about the vetting process for government appointments. The investigation is ongoing.
