Sat Jan 25 22:39:53 IST 2025: ## Rohit Sharma Leads ICC T20I Team of the Year After World Cup Triumph
**Dubai, UAE** – India’s Rohit Sharma has been named captain of the ICC T20I Team of the Year for 2024, a fitting reward after leading his team to a second T20 World Cup title. Sharma’s selection caps a successful year, despite a less impressive showing in Test cricket. He was also the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer.
The team boasts a strong Indian contingent, with pacers Jasprit Bumrah (Player of the Tournament) and Arshdeep Singh, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya all featuring. Bumrah’s 15 wickets and Arshdeep’s tournament-leading 17 wickets were instrumental in India’s victory. Arshdeep, in fact, had a stellar year with 36 wickets in 18 matches. Pandya’s all-around contributions also earned him a place in the elite XI.
The team is a truly international affair, however. Australian opener Travis Head (255 runs in the World Cup), and England’s Phil Salt (three T20I centuries in 2024) bring explosive batting power. Nicholas Pooran, the highest T20I run-scorer of 2024 with over 2,000 runs, takes the wicket-keeping duties. Pakistan’s Babar Azam also features, despite a less-than-stellar World Cup performance. The all-rounder spots are filled by the versatile Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe), Pandya, and Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, whose impressive performance led Afghanistan to their first-ever World Cup semi-final appearance. Finally, Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga completes the spin bowling attack.
The ICC T20I Team of the Year 2024 is: Rohit Sharma (c), Travis Head, Phil Salt, Babar Azam, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Sikandar Raza, Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, Wanindu Hasaranga, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh.
