Sat Jan 25 17:28:20 IST 2025: **Chennai Alumni Group Keeps School Spirit Alive With Monthly Meetups**

CHENNAI, January 25, 2025 – The Thiru.Vi.Ka. Higher Secondary School alumni association in Chennai is bucking the trend of large, infrequent alumni gatherings. Instead of holding grand reunions only on national holidays, this group of over 200 life members, spanning graduating classes from 1965 onwards, meets every first Sunday of the month.

These monthly meetups, attended by 20-30 alumni, provide a platform for reminiscing, brainstorming ideas to support the school, and connecting with old classmates. The meetings also serve a practical purpose: providing financial aid to students and their families. For instance, scholarships were awarded at the September 2024 executive committee meeting.

The alumni’s commitment to their alma mater is substantial. They are currently funding the renovation of the school’s chemistry lab and providing mentorship and tutoring for students before board exams. The school has even made it a tradition for an alumnus to hoist the national flag on Republic Day and Independence Day.

A large reunion is planned for January 26th, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the 1972 graduating class, and is expected to draw nearly 300 attendees. S. Adhiappan, a former president of the alumni association, emphasizes the importance of these regular meetings, especially for the many senior citizens involved, as a way to stay connected and contribute to the school’s well-being.
