Fri Jan 24 19:18:03 UTC 2025: ## CPI(M) and VCK Demand CBI Probe into Vengaivayal Water Contamination Case
**Chennai, January 25, 2025** – The CPI(M) and VCK, allies of Tamil Nadu’s ruling DMK, have demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Vengaivayal water contamination case. Their call follows the release of a charge sheet by the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) that alleges villagers themselves contaminated the water tank with human feces due to internal rivalry.
CPI(M) State secretary P. Shanmugam criticized the CB-CID’s findings as unacceptable, arguing that blaming members of the affected community was an attempt to hastily close the case. VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan expressed outrage that three individuals from the Scheduled Caste (SC) community were named as accused. He deemed the charge sheet shocking and unacceptable, urging the court to reject it and order a further investigation.
Thirumavalavan highlighted concerns about police bias against the SC community throughout the investigation, noting that delays in identifying culprits and the failure to comply with Madras High Court instructions fueled demands for a CBI probe. He believes the hastily filed charge sheet aims to preempt a court-ordered CBI investigation. Both parties maintain that a CBI investigation is necessary to ensure a fair and impartial outcome.
