Sat Jan 25 20:48:50 IST 2025: ## Dharwad to Inaugurate Ambedkar Memorial and Restored Hostel on Ambedkar Jayanti
**Dharwad, Karnataka –** A memorial to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and a restored hostel he established will be inaugurated in Dharwad on April 14th, Ambedkar Jayanti, marking a significant culmination of a long-term project. The initiative, spearheaded by the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Educational and Charitable Trust, has revitalized a site with historical significance to the architect of the Indian Constitution.
Ambedkar’s connection to Dharwad dates back to his establishment of a hostel for “depressed class students,” where his wife, Ramabai, even cooked for the students. The hostel, which fell into disrepair over time, has been renovated and renamed Mathoshree Ramatai Ambedkar College Boys Hostel. The campus now also includes a “Buddha Vihar” memorial and other educational institutions.
The project, initially proposed during Siddaramaiah’s first term as Chief Minister, faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding was provided by several state governments over the years. Prakash Ambedkar, Ambedkar’s grandson and current chairman of the trust, has overseen the project’s completion. The inauguration will commemorate Ambedkar’s legacy and his profound impact on the city of Dharwad.
