**Chandigarh, January 25, 2025** – Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on Saturday that his Congress government has generated an additional ₹2,200 crore in revenue over the past two years, despite inheriting a significant debt from the previous BJP administration. Speaking at the state’s 55th Statehood Day celebration, Mr. Sukhu attributed the revenue increase to reforms implemented in excise, tourism, power, and mining sectors.
He highlighted that a substantial portion of the ₹30,080 crore in loans taken by the current government over the last two financial years – approximately ₹18,854 crore (63%) – was used to repay debts incurred by the previous BJP government. Mr. Sukhu emphasized the government’s focus on resource generation rather than continued reliance on borrowing.
The Chief Minister further claimed that his government has created over 42,000 jobs in two years, exceeding the 20,000 jobs created during the BJP’s five-year term. He cited initiatives aimed at strengthening the state’s rural economy through improvements in dairy, natural farming, agriculture, horticulture, and fisheries as key contributors to this employment growth. While acknowledging the challenges of the upcoming fiscal year, Mr. Sukhu expressed confidence that the government would overcome them with the support of the people. He also stated that six out of ten election promises made by the Congress party in 2022 have been fulfilled.
