Sat Jan 25 03:29:50 UTC 2025: ## BJP Demands Accountability After Expired Saline Allegations in West Bengal Hospitals

**Kolkata, January 25, 2025** – The BJP in West Bengal is escalating its pressure on the Mamata Banerjee government following allegations of expired saline solution being used in state-run hospitals. Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Friday led a protest, culminating in a visit to the Governor’s residence with the family of a critically ill patient.

The controversy stems from an incident at Midnapore Medical College and Hospital (MMCH), where a woman and her newborn died, and several other postpartum mothers fell critically ill after allegedly receiving expired Ringer’s Lactate solution. Twelve doctors have been suspended by the state government for alleged medical negligence.

Mr. Adhikari, along with other BJP leaders, organized a rally demanding a complete list of patients who received the questionable saline solution. He expressed concerns about the potential impact on thousands of individuals and claimed that three postpartum mothers remain critically ill and unable to urinate properly. He further alleged that family members are being denied access to their hospitalized relatives.

The BJP is calling for stringent action against the State Health Secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam and Health Minister Mamata Banerjee, as well as compensation and the reinstatement of the suspended doctors. Mr. Adhikari concluded his protest by delivering a deputation to the Governor at Raj Bhawan, accompanied by the family of Mampi Singh, one of the critically ill patients. The BJP’s actions highlight growing tensions over the handling of this medical crisis in West Bengal.
