Sat Jan 25 03:24:49 UTC 2025: ## Bollywood Actress Mamta Kulkarni Renounces Worldly Life, Becomes Mahamandaleshwar

**Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh:** Former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni, 52, has embarked on a spiritual journey, renouncing her acting career and assuming the title of Mahamandaleshwar, a high-ranking spiritual leader within the Kinnar Akhara, a Hindu religious order. The ceremony took place during the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.

Kulkarni, who adopted the new name Mai Mamta Nand Giri, performed the Pind Daan ritual, a ceremony honoring departed ancestors, at the Sangam confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. She then underwent a consecration ceremony (pattabhishek) within the Kinnar Akhara, becoming a Mahamandaleshwar. This followed her taking sanyas (renunciation) and meeting with several prominent religious figures, including Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Laxmi Narayan Tripathi.

Kulkarni stated that she began her spiritual journey 23 years ago and underwent rigorous testing before receiving the title. She cited the auspicious planetary alignment and the sanctity of the current Maha Kumbh as contributing factors to her decision. She also denied rumors of anger amongst religious leaders and fans regarding her choice, stating that her decision was guided by divine will.

While the process of becoming a Mahamandaleshwar typically requires years of dedicated spiritual practice, Kulkarni’s initiation was confirmed by several religious leaders, including Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, who stated that she has been associated with the Juna Akhara for the past two years and more recently with the Kinnar Akhara.

Kulkarni emphasized her intention to dedicate her life to preaching Sanatan Dharma and clarified that her decision was not driven by personal problems but rather a desire for spiritual fulfillment. She stated that she left Bollywood 23 years ago and has no intention of returning.
