**Chennai, January 25, 2025** – Thirteen employees of the 108 ambulance service’s Emergency Response Centre in Chennai are currently hospitalized after a suspected gas leak at their workplace. The incident occurred on Saturday evening, prompting the immediate transport of 14 staff members – 11 women and three men – to Government Royapettah Hospital.
According to Health Minister Ma. Subramanian, who visited the hospitalized workers, all are in stable condition and are being kept under observation. One individual has already been discharged. The minister attributed the incident to a gas leak from an air conditioning unit, causing several staff members to experience symptoms including cough and dizziness. One employee initially treated in the ICU for increased breathlessness has since been moved to a ward. Doctors will assess their condition Sunday morning to determine further treatment or discharge.
