Fri Jan 24 18:57:09 UTC 2025: ## Fourteen Arrested After Deadly Turkish Hotel Fire

**Ankara, Turkey** – Fourteen people have been arrested following the devastating fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Kartalkaya, Turkey, which claimed the lives of 78 people earlier this week. State media reported Friday that eight more suspects were apprehended and brought before prosecutors, bringing the total number of arrests to fourteen.

Among those detained are the hotel owner, his son-in-law, the general manager, director, chief electrician, and the fire chief of the nearby town of Bolu. The arrests come amid suspicions of negligence, with survivors reporting a lack of fire alarms, safety exits, and fire doors within the twelve-story hotel, significantly hindering escape efforts.

The fire, which broke out early Tuesday morning, engulfed the hotel while it housed 238 guests, mostly families with children, according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya. The investigation into the tragic incident continues.
