**Hyderabad, [Date]** – Manda Krishna Madiga, founder and president of the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS), has been awarded the prestigious Padma Shri award. The award recognizes his extensive social service work in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The announcement was made by the central government on Republic Day.
Mr. Madiga’s decades-long struggle for the sub-categorization of Scheduled Castes (SCs) has been instrumental in bringing the issue to national prominence. Beginning his fight in 1994 with a group of 20 youths from the small village of Eidumudi in Prakasam district, under the banner of ‘Madiga Dandora’, he relentlessly championed the cause. His efforts finally led to both the central and state governments accepting the need for SC sub-categorization, with Prime Minister Modi recently giving the initiative a green light. Sub-categorization is expected to be implemented shortly.
