**Mumbai, January 24, 2025** – The Bandra Magistrate Court today extended the police custody of Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad, the accused in the stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, until January 29. The court cited substantial progress in the investigation and the need to explore further aspects of the case, including the potential involvement of accomplices and the source of the weapon used.

Shehzad, who allegedly broke into Khan’s residence last week, is accused of stabbing the actor. Police say he is not cooperating fully with the investigation. They are seeking to match his fingerprints with CCTV footage and recover his shoes, which were worn during the crime. A “gamchha” (a type of towel) belonging to the accused, recovered at the scene, is also part of the evidence. Police are also investigating a Kolkata resident, Khukmoni Jahangir Sheikh, whose Aadhar card was allegedly used by Shehzad to obtain a SIM card.

Khan’s statement was recorded by police at his residence on Thursday. His wife, Kareena Kapoor’s statement was recorded earlier. Khan, who underwent surgery for stab wounds to his thoracic spine and other parts of his body at Lilavati Hospital, was discharged on Tuesday.

Mumbai Police have recovered several of Shehzad’s fingerprints at Khan’s residence, including on the stairs, a toilet door, and the doorknob of his son’s room. Police believe the fingerprints will be crucial evidence. They also suspect Shehzad attempted to break into at least two other houses before targeting Khan’s home.
