**Madrid, Spain** – Real Madrid has cemented its position at the top of Deloitte’s Football Money League, achieving a record-breaking €1.05 billion ($1.09 billion) in revenue during the 2023-24 season. This marks the first time any football club has surpassed the billion-euro mark in a single season, a feat largely attributed to the lucrative revamp of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
The newly renovated stadium, boasting a retractable pitch, expanded VIP areas, and hosting major events like Taylor Swift concerts and upcoming NFL games, significantly boosted matchday revenue, doubling it to $258 million. This substantial increase created the largest ever gap between the top two clubs in the league, with Manchester City in second place at $872 million and Paris Saint-Germain in third at $839 million.
Despite complaints from local residents about noise pollution leading to temporary concert suspensions, the Bernabéu’s transformation remains a key driver of Real Madrid’s financial success. Deloitte highlighted the increasing trend of clubs transforming their stadiums into multi-use entertainment venues, generating additional revenue streams.
While commercial revenue remains the largest contributor for the top 20 clubs (44% of total revenue), Real Madrid’s success showcases the potential of strategic stadium investment.
Elsewhere in the league, Manchester United’s return to the Champions League propelled them to fourth place ($802 million), surpassing Bayern Munich. Barcelona dropped to sixth due to ongoing Camp Nou renovations. English clubs continued their dominance, holding six of the top ten spots.
In the women’s game, Barcelona maintained their top spot for a third consecutive year, generating $18.6 million in revenue, a 26% increase year-on-year. Arsenal Women and Chelsea Women followed in second and third place respectively.
