Fri Jan 24 14:49:24 IST 2025: ## Evacuation Orders Lifted as Firefighters Gain Ground Against Massive LA-Area Wildfire

**LOS ANGELES, CA –** Evacuation orders for approximately 31,000 residents have been lifted following significant progress made overnight in battling the Hughes wildfire, burning north of Los Angeles. The blaze, which erupted near Castaic on Wednesday, had consumed 10,000 acres by Thursday but its rate of spread has slowed considerably thanks to a massive firefighting effort.

Over 4,000 personnel, supported by air tankers and bulldozers, fought the flames throughout the night. The fire is now 14% contained, according to officials, meaning that portion of the perimeter is considered stable. While dangerous fire weather persists in Southern California, firefighters expressed optimism about the situation.

The Hughes fire adds to the strain on the region, which is still recovering from two deadly wildfires earlier this month. The swift response and apparent success in slowing the blaze’s progression has brought some relief to residents, although the threat remains and full containment is still some time away.
