Thu Jan 23 21:51:02 UTC 2025: ## Emilia Pérez Dominates Oscar Nominations with 13 Nods

**LOS ANGELES** – The 97th Academy Awards are shaping up to be a thrilling contest, with Netflix’s musical crime thriller *Emilia Pérez* leading the pack with a staggering 13 nominations. The film, directed by Jacques Audiard, is nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress (Karla Sofía Gascón making history as the first openly trans nominee in the category), and Best Supporting Actress (Zoe Saldana).

*Emilia Pérez*’s dominance overshadows strong contenders *The Brutalist* and *Wicked*, each receiving 10 nominations. The Best Picture category is fiercely competitive, also including *Anora*, *A Complete Unknown*, *Conclave*, *I’m Still Here*, *The Substance*, *Dune: Part Two*, and *Nickel Boys*.

Adrien Brody (*The Brutalist*) is favored to win Best Actor, but faces stiff competition from Timothée Chalamet, Ralph Fiennes, Sebastian Stan, and Colman Domingo. The Best Actress category features a star-studded lineup including Demi Moore, Mikey Madison, Cynthia Erivo, and Fernanda Torres alongside Gascón. Kieran Culkin (*A Real Pain*) is considered a frontrunner for Best Supporting Actor, while the Best Supporting Actress race appears to be a tight contest between Saldana and Ariana Grande.

Notable snubs include Pamela Anderson and Jamie Lee Curtis, who despite receiving Screen Actors Guild nominations, were not nominated for Oscars, along with A-listers Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie.

This year’s Oscars, hosted for the first time by Conan O’Brien, will feature a revised format. The Best Song category will forgo live performances, instead focusing on the songwriters. The ceremony will also pay tribute to Los Angeles, highlighting its resilience following recent wildfires.

The 97th Academy Awards will air live on ABC on March 2nd at 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST and will be simultaneously streamed live on Hulu for the first time, with on-demand availability the following day. The red carpet pre-show begins at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT on ABC.
