**Khargone, MP (January 24, 2025):** Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced today the closure of all liquor shops in 17 holy towns across the state. The decision, made during a cabinet meeting in Khargone, is the first step in the government’s broader initiative to curb alcohol consumption.

The 17 locations include one municipal corporation (Ujjain), six municipalities, six urban councils, and six village panchayats. The closure will be complete, with no relocation of the liquor vends. Affected areas span several districts, including Datia, Panna, Mandla, Multai, Mandsaur, and Maihar. Specific towns include Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Mandleshwar, Orchha, Chitrakoot, and Amarkantak. Six villages—Salkanpur, Barman Kala, Linga, Kundalpur, Bandakpur, and Barmankhurd—are also included in the ban.

The existing liquor ban within a 5-kilometer radius of the Narmada river will remain in effect. The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to reducing alcohol consumption in the state.
