**London, UK** – Production has officially begun on DC Studios’ “Supergirl,” with Milly Alcock (“House of the Dragon”) starring in the titular role. DC Studios co-head James Gunn announced the start of filming on X (formerly Twitter), expressing his excitement about the project.
The film, directed by Craig Gillespie, adapts Tom King’s acclaimed 2022 comic book series, “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” illustrated by Bilquis Evely and adapted for the screen by Ana Nogueira. The story follows Kara Zor-El as she confronts Krem of the Yellow Hill, a villain who murdered a young alien girl’s father, drawing Supergirl into a galaxy-spanning conflict.
Joining Alcock is Eve Ridley (“Three Body Problem”) as Ruthye Mary Knolle, a noble warrior who assists Supergirl, and Matthias Schoenaerts (“Rust and Bone”) as the villainous Krem. Gunn revealed that Alcock was his first choice for the role, having envisioned her as Supergirl over a year ago after reading the comic.
Filming is taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. Gunn praised both Gillespie’s directorial vision and Alcock’s performance, highlighting her ability to embody the unique interpretation of Supergirl from the source material.
