**Los Angeles, CA – January 22, 2025** – The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) today announced the nominees for its 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, celebrating outstanding LGBTQ representation in media. A record 303 nominees across 33 categories reflect the growing visibility and impact of LGBTQ stories in film, television, music, journalism, and more.
This year’s nominees span a wide range of acclaimed works, including “Abbott Elementary,” “Agatha All Along,” Billie Eilish, Doechii, Elton John, “Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” “Sesame Street,” and “Wicked.” The awards also recognize significant contributions from local news outlets in cities such as Columbus, San Francisco, Spokane, and Tulsa, highlighting a surge in LGBTQ-inclusive reporting.
The awards ceremony, taking place in Los Angeles on March 27, 2025, will feature a newly expanded category for Outstanding Independent Journalism, reflecting the evolving media landscape. GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis emphasized the continued importance of LGBTQ representation in a time of increasing attacks and misinformation targeting the community. “This year’s nominees…send a loud and global message to industry leaders that our stories are not only popular and entertaining, but necessary and culture-changing,” she stated.
In addition to the competitive awards, GLAAD announced Special Recognition honors for projects including “DRAG: The Musical,” the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center, and the WNBA’s New York Liberty, for their contributions to LGBTQ acceptance and visibility. The Barbara Gittings Award for Excellence in LGBTQ Media will be presented to Q.Digital.
