NEW YORK, NY – Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the now-defunct dark web marketplace Silk Road, has thanked former President Donald Trump for his pardon, calling it an “amazing blessing.” In a video message posted on X, Ulbricht, 40, expressed overwhelming relief after serving over 11 years of a double life sentence plus 40 years for crimes related to the online marketplace.
Ulbricht’s conviction stemmed from allegations that Silk Road facilitated $183 million in drug sales using Bitcoin. Prosecutors argued he was a criminal mastermind, even alleging involvement in murder-for-hire plots, though he was never convicted on those charges. However, Ulbricht’s supporters, including libertarians and cryptocurrency enthusiasts, argued his sentence was excessive and that he was unfairly punished for the actions of others.
