NEW DELHI – The Indian National Congress has pledged to create a dedicated ministry and budget for the Poorvanchali community in Delhi if elected in the upcoming February 5th assembly elections. This announcement, made by Bihar Congress president Akhilesh Prasad Singh, targets the significant voting bloc of residents from eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
Singh criticized the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing them of corruption in the healthcare sector (allegedly Rs 382 crore) and neglecting Delhi’s infrastructure. He emphasized the Poorvanchali community’s contribution to the city’s development and asserted that a dedicated ministry would address their specific needs in health and education.
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate echoed these sentiments, highlighting the community’s contributions across India while lamenting their alleged mistreatment in Delhi. The AAP, meanwhile, has previously touted its achievements for the Poorvanchali community. The upcoming election is expected to be closely contested, with all major parties vying for the support of this influential demographic. Vote counting will take place on February 8th.
