**CHARLOTTE, NC –** Numerous school districts across North and South Carolina adjusted their schedules on Wednesday, January 22nd, due to a significant winter weather system. A winter weather advisory, accompanied by an extreme cold warning for western North Carolina, was in effect.

Freezing temperatures, reaching single digits in the mountains and areas north of I-40, and teens in the Charlotte metro area, prompted several schools to cancel or delay classes. The National Weather Service predicted 1-2 inches of snow accumulation in the southern and eastern Piedmont and parts of the northern Coastal Plain. Western North Carolina already experienced snow and icy road conditions on Tuesday. The threat of freezing precipitation prompted widespread schedule changes to ensure student and staff safety.
