Thu Jan 23 19:50:15 IST 2025: ## 15-Year-Old Shatters Ganguly’s Ranji Trophy Record

**Kolkata, [Date]:** Ankit Chatterjee, a 15-year-old student, has created history by becoming the youngest player to debut in the Ranji Trophy for Bengal, breaking a record previously held by former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly.

Chatterjee made his debut against Haryana in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match. Ganguly’s record stood for 35 years, having debuted at the age of 17 in the 1989-90 Ranji Trophy final. Chatterjee’s opportunity arose due to an injury to Abhimanyu Easwaran, forcing the team to call upon the young prodigy.

Despite facing a challenging situation, Chatterjee displayed composure, finishing the day unbeaten on 5 runs. While his team, Bengal, is currently trailing Haryana by 151 runs after Haryana was bowled out for 157 (Sindhu Jaiswal taking 6 wickets), Chatterjee’s achievement remains a significant milestone.

The young cricketer, who attends a high school in North 24 Parganas district, plays for Shyam Bazar Club, located 75 kilometers from his school. His remarkable talent earned him a spot in the Bengal Ranji Trophy team at the tender age of 15. This impressive feat underscores his exceptional promise and talent in the world of cricket.
