Thu Jan 23 13:56:50 UTC 2025: ## India’s Test Stars Fail to Deliver in Ranji Trophy Debut

**Mumbai, India –** A disappointing start for four Indian Test team stars in their return to domestic cricket. Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant, all playing for their respective state teams in the Ranji Trophy’s sixth round, were dismissed for single-digit scores on the first day of the second phase of the tournament.

Rohit Sharma’s highly anticipated return to the Ranji Trophy after a decade lasted only 19 balls. He was bowled for three runs by Jammu and Kashmir’s Umar Nazir, whose disciplined bowling eventually outsmarted the Mumbai captain. This continues a poor run of form for Rohit in red-ball cricket, averaging just 10.93 in the 2024/25 Test season.

Yashasvi Jaiswal managed only four runs before being trapped leg before wicket by Auqib Nabi. Shubman Gill, opening for Punjab against Karnataka, scored four runs off eight balls before being caught by Karnataka’s Abhilash Shetty. Rishabh Pant, playing his first Ranji Trophy match since December 2017, lasted just 10 balls, scoring a single run before being caught off the bowling of Dharmendrasinh Jadeja.

While the batting performance of these high-profile players was underwhelming, Ravindra Jadeja provided some excitement with a five-wicket haul (66 runs in 17.4 overs) for Saurashtra, restricting Delhi to 188 runs.

The quartet will have another opportunity to prove themselves in their team’s second innings.
